How to Apply

If you are genuinely interested in the unique model of community-led co-operative living, please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Before applying, you must meet our basic criteria. Co-operative living requires a commitment to participation.

• A genuine need for housing.
• A strong interest in co-operative living.
• Willingness to actively participate in the running of the co-operative (e.g., attending meetings and social events).

If you’re unsure if co-operative housing is a good fit, please contact us, we are happy to help you understand what it entails.

We have a mix of property types:

• Five 3-bedroom, 5-person houses
• Eight 2-bedroom, 3-person flats
• Twenty-five 1-bedroom, 2-person flats
• Nine 1-bedroom, 1-person flats

Step 2: Complete and Submit the Application Form

You will be notified once your application to join our waiting list has been approved.

Step 3: Attend an Interview

When a property matching your criteria becomes available, we will contact you.

• You will be invited to attend an interview with current co-operative members.
• You will have an opportunity to visit the property.
• You will learn more details about how the co-operative functions.

This step is essential for both parties to determine if there is a good mutual fit.

Step 4: Offer and Acceptance

If your application is successful, you will be offered the property. Upon signing a tenancy agreement, you will officially become a member of Darent Housing Co-operative.

Step 5: Move In and Get Involved

You will be welcomed as a member! We encourage you to start attending meetings, taking part in key decisions, and helping to shape the future of our co-operative.
