About Us
We are founded on the principles of collective ownership and democratic control. Our success lies in the commitment of our members to mutual support and participation.
Our History and Location
Darent Housing Co-operative was established on May 1st, 1982, founded on the core principles of collective ownership and democratic control. We are a fully mutual co-operative that manages 47 homes, situated in the beautiful and leafy village of Sutton at Hone, just four miles outside of Dartford.

What is a Housing Co-operative?
A housing co-operative is a unique model where the residents are the owners and managers of the community. Unlike traditional housing associations or private landlords, our Co-op is governed entirely by its resident members through an active Management Committee. This structure ensures that decisions about maintenance, finances, and community life are made directly by those who live here—your neighbours and you. This independence allows us to shape our environment directly, fostering a strong sense of shared responsibility and community well-being.

Our Commitment to Community
The success and sustainability of Darent Housing Co-operative lie in the commitment of our members to mutual support and participation. We are more than just a landlord; we are a vibrant community built on active engagement.
By getting involved in the running of the co-operative—from attending meetings to helping make key decisions—members directly contribute to a stable, sustainable, and highly successful living environment. This democratic approach not only ensures transparency and accountability but also strengthens the bonds between residents, creating a truly communal home.
"Our success lies in the commitment of our members to mutual support and participation."
